Olympic Peninsula Pt. 1
I had an incredible weekend exploring the Olympic Peninsula with three of my oldest friends. We always have a great time when we get together, but this was next level.
I've wanted to visit this area of Washington state for a very long time and it truly outdid itself. I felt like we were experiencing a new stunning, yet completely different, landscape every couple of hours. Consequently, there are far too many photos to share in just one blog post, so I've split the trip into two. This is part one slash day one.
The quickest way to get to the Peninsula from the Canadian boarder is to take a ferry from Whitby Island to Port Townsend. It's about 30 min and cost us $20 altogether (four passengers and a truck). Pretty darn affordable.
A stranger on the ferry informed us that no trip to the Peninsula can be considered complete without a visit to Hurricane Ridge. Our map informed us that it would only be a short detour on the way to our rental cabin, so we decided to check it out right away.
The road up to the ridge is windy, but well paved, and takes you right up to the top of a mountain. From there, we found ourselves facing a 365 degree view of the surrounding peaks. It was absolutely incredible and more than one profanity was exclaimed.
We felt like we were on top of the world!
Eventually, the sun started to set and we had to leave so as to not get locked behind the park gate. We sang along loudly to Taylor Swift the whole way back down the mountain and made it to our quaint, lake-side rental cabin right at dusk.
Stay tuned for part two of our trip later this week!
