Jones Lake

Coco and I were up to all sorts of things this Easter long weekend. This is the first half of our adventures in her words and my images:

This last weekend, a crew gathered and went out to Jones Lake for a quick one-night camping trip.

For me, it was the first time the water was low enough to actually see the famous stump graveyard in person. The beach is just littered with wrangled roots, all holding onto sand and silt. It's so rad. With the low clouds, it made for some very moody vibes.

I've been encouraging Kat to keep sticking with her film cameras, so she ran around with her Pentax SLR and new (to her) medium format Bronica. Meanwhile, RJ experimented with his drone and time lapses and Zach captured some crazy DSLR shots. As someone who doesn't know the inner workings of photography well, it was so cool to see how each different camera needs such a specific kind of attention.

The boys made a fire and we spent the rest of the night soaking in the good company and fresh air.

The moon was bright enough that the mountains were lit almost all night. Clouds started rolling in just before morning, but we could still watch the mountain peaks turn pink as the sun rose.

I love being outside but mountains are a whole different ballgame for me. It doesn't matter how many times I see the same range, it will always floor me. Waking up to that scene was pretty unreal. How are we so lucky to live in a place like this?

Here are a couple of shots captured by Zach:

It was short and sweet but a perfect way to start the long weekend.
