My Wedding
On January 2nd, 2019 Adam and I got married in Palm Springs, California!
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of destination weddings and travelling with friends. Our original plan was to get married at my families cabin on Galiano Island. That idea got squashed over fears of relying on unpredictable ferry boats. That’s when the idea of Palm Springs came up. Adam’s parents live in Palm Springs part time and we are in love with the vibe of the Coachella Valley. We decided it would be fun to make a trip of it and share one of our favourite places with our friends and family.
The Ace Hotel and Swim Club was quickly decided as our venue. It’s an old Motel 6 and Denny’s that has been converted into one of the trendiest spots in town. Logistically it was a great option because they provide most of the elements we needed, plus it’s the most photogenic venue we could have hoped for and meant we didn’t have to do too much work to make it look amazing. Choosing an off-season date meant we could get a really good deal and avoid extreme temperatures.
In the days leading up to our wedding day, we planned a couple of group dinners and a full day of activities on New Years Eve: an oasis hike, brunch, golfing, biking, and a midnight street party to ring in 2019. We also provided a list of our favourite activities and locations for guests to check out during their stay.
Not going to lie, I was pretty stressed out during the planning — destination weddings come with a whole host of complicated logistics. The night before the wedding I resolved to let go of stresses and enjoy the day. It was a semi-successful attempt, but all in all it was a really beautiful day. The sun was shining, the rosé was flowing, the food was outstanding, and everyone had a lot of fun. Check out the photos:
Not pictured is the whole bridal party jumping into the pool and our afterparty at the hotel bar. It was the most fun way to end a great day and we’re so thankful to everyone who was able to join us!
About our Video
We weren’t able to have a videographer, so instead we asked a few friends to use the same VHS simulation app to capture video throughout the week which Adam compiled to make an adorable video. I’m in love with how it turned out! Pretty good for a DIY project!
